NRCEC Programs

eve1

Digital Learning Initiative:

Thanks to a generous grant from Suntrust Bank and the Memorial Foundation for Children, NRCEC has a Digital Learning Center where early learners master basic computing skills. Our “Let’s Start” program introduces learners between 2 ½ and 8 years old to successfully maneuver through various commands with the use of literacy and mathematics software programs. Participants develop language skills and increase eye-hand coordination through self-paced exercises.

Each student is partnered with another child and one adult facilitator. The Seniors remain engaged with the community by learning internet tips, social media strategies, and the basics of the Microsoft Office Suite. The Digital Learning Center allows NRCEC the ability to offer state-of-the-art programming and continue to connect the communities with the use of technology.

Strategies to Success:

Motivational Speaker Dwayne A. Bennett, JD leads an energetic and dynamic discussion with young people and their parents/mentors to share 7 strategies to succeed in school. He states that the goal in college is to graduate and uses personal experience and an evidence based approach to providing the blueprint to achieving the goal. Mr. Bennett extends his insight to parents by sharing coping strategies to successfully transition “From Worry to Winning”. Space is limited to 20 student participants and their parents. $20 per person for the complete 8 week session.

*Please contact us for more information. Special discounts for groups available; in addition to fund raising opportunities.

PSAT/SAT Boot Camp:

PSAT and SAT scores are key elements of being selected to your school of choice. We want to help! NRCEC conducts PSAT and SAT training boot camps to provide key test taking tips, strategies, and practice exams with an analysis of the results. Not everyone is a great test taker but we help bring out the best in you! Join us for this 8 week series. Class sizes are limited! Fee required.

Community Reads:

We inspire a family of readers. “Community Reads” is a literacy program designed to spark the love of reading in young people by engaging their parents and other adults in book discussions and related events. Each month, NRCEC holds monthly book club meetings for adults with accompanying “Read to Me” activities for young people between the ages of 2 ½ and 9.

Hands Up, Guns Down:

Our fun-to-fitness approach to building self-esteem, self-confidence, and staying in great physical shape. In addition, it offers conflict resolution that we can live with. Young people between the ages of 13-17 participate in weekly training sessions to learn the basic of kickboxing (90 minutes) followed by a one hour workshop in conflict resolution strategies. The program last 18 weeks.
